Whew, another election run in the books. It doesn't get any easier.
Again I was under full attack.
The main thing is not only was I re-elected but our entire councillor team was fully endorsed by the residents of White Rock. We old the residents what our vision was, and they said “OK let’s give it a shot.”
Unfortunately our Mayoral candidate SUSAN BAINS did not receive enough votes to anchor council. CHRIS SHIELDS ran a very strong campaign, I cannot take anything away from him. And I look forward to four years of Chris and councillor BILL LAWRENCE helping us to advance our vision and commitment to the residents of our city by the sea.
Up north n Surrey DOUG MCCALLUM returns as mayor. It didn’t surprise me. I attended the SOURCES Surrey mayoral info session. As much as I was impressed with MIKE STARCHUK and TROY VAN VLIET it was obvious they lacked the huge machine that was pushing MCCALLUM to victory. MCCALLUM’S victory will hopefully bring back a productive relationship between our two cities. MCCALUM has full support on council with every single member of his slate elected with the exception of 1outside councillor. Doug will get things done, you may not like his style, but he is going to make changes.
Over Burnaby way, my fellow music industry veteran JOE KEITHLEY ( he of punk rock legendary band DOA) pulled down the most votes of any councillor. Joe worked hard, trying for a number of years for not only civic but Provincial politics. Zippy The Pinhead says “Am I elected yet?” Indeed Joe, indeed.
Vancouver made an abrupt change in direction. PETE FRY has always impressed me and I am happy to see he has the full support of his slate to run the city without all the BS that has inhabited local politics for the past term.
A young lady by the name of DELANEY MACK came to my attention this past term. MACK was a Langley city councillor that came under full attack from her fellow council members as well as the sitting mayor PACHAL.
Having been down the full attack road twice in my three terms I decided I would reach out and buy DELANEY a coffee. What I found when we met was an incredibly passionate, intelligent and focused individual that truly loved her home in Langley and was concerned about its future. I was stunned to learn she had literally spent every penny of her just over $100,000.00 council reimbursement on legal fees, in order to take on the dark evil back stabbing forces of a council in opposition. She is not independently wealthy but she had principles. It made my evening when I punched up the results for Langley and there she was MAYOR MACK with the majority of council on her slate. Their future looks bright.
White Rock’s future excites me. With the 5 members of the TOGETHER FOR WHITE ROCK team elected. Our Wish is Our Command.
I respect the keenness of CHRIS SHIELDS for Mayor and through all the BS, slandering, backstabbing the past term of council, even though councillor LAWRENCE fell in lockstep with KNIGHT’S knights, I always commended BILL for his civility and professionalism that were very much in short supply for the other member of “The Knights,” but they're gone now never to return!
So cry me a river, gnash your teeth, jump up and down and question how the hell did this happen?
Then sit back and watch the great things forthcoming for White Rock. The market housing crash signifies we will not be navel gazing about high-rises for the next 4 years.
You can only imagine what we are going to do.
Stay tuned and come on down to a council meeting when we get back up and running in November.
We can do this TOGETHER!!!!

About the Gala
The Semiahmoo Community Safety Society invites you to the next edition of its signature fundraising celebration — the Red Serge Gala, returning this October at the beautiful Morgan Creek Golf Course Clubhouse. Inspired by the success of past galas — including 2024’s “Boots & Bling Country Fling” and 2025’s vibrant “Back to the ’80s” celebration — this year’s event promises an unforgettable evening in support of safety across the Semiahmoo Peninsula.
Every city in the Province of British Columbia is governed by the Community Charter. That is with the exception of Vancouver which has its own charter. Yesterday on a whistle stop in Surrey Premier EBY made the following promises:
BC NDP Leader David Eby spent the day in Surrey outlining his vision for the fast-growing city’s future. His plan will lower the cost of gas and groceries, strengthen health care, and get the big projects Surrey needs built–like new SkyTrain expansions and hospital infrastructure.
“Surrey will soon be B.C.’s biggest city, and it’s at the heart of my vision for our province’s future. Building a stronger British Columbia starts right here,” said Eby. “Our plan is fully costed, so I can tell people in Surrey exactly what we’ll build. Mr. Doerkson can’t. He wants to ‘review’ the infrastructure budget, and he won’t say what gets cut.”
Under the BC NDP, Surrey has received $12 billion in major projects, more than any other community. Those projects include the new Surrey hospital in Cloverdale, the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain, and the SFU Surrey medical school. All three are already under construction, and all three are funded through the infrastructure budget that BC Conservative Leader Lorne Doerkson wants to review.
Doerkson already promised to cancel the Massey Tunnel replacement, which is already underway and start over with a bridge. That would put hundreds out of work, sacrifice $3 billion in federal funding and leave commuters waiting even longer.
“A growing city like Surrey needs a government that will build and hire – not a one that will cancel and fire,” said Eby. “People here have seen that movie before. It means deep cuts, higher costs, and chaos at the worst possible time.”
Eby pointed to the record of the last conservative government. It tolled the Port Mann Bridge and left kids in overcrowded classrooms. And they sold the land for the second hospital in Surrey below its appraised value to a well-connected campaign donor.
Eby also warned that Doerkson's agenda includes a secret deal with personal injury lawyers that would double car insurance, and billions of dollars in backdoor cuts to health care.
“We’ve got a lot more work to do together. We can’t afford to go back to the days where people in Surrey bear the brunt of cuts and higher costs,” Eby concluded.
David Eby’s vision for a stronger, more livable Surrey includes:
Getting big projects done: A fully costed plan to complete the new hospital, the SkyTrain extension to Langley, and the new medical school. A re-elected BC NDP will also work with the mayor and council to build a SkyTrain extension to Newton and use the land offered by the city to build a new health care facility.
Lowering the cost of getting around: Taking on big oil and suspending a portion of the gas tax to save people up to 30 cents a litre on gas. Per tank, that’s savings of as much as $20 for families for $116 of diesel for trucks. A re-elected BC NDP will also cap car insurance rates for another three years and offer free transit passes to low-income seniors.
Strengthening health care: Launching an accelerated "bridging to practice" training program to fast-track qualified international medical graduates living in B.C. into family medicine, committing to 3 new primary care clinics in Surrey, and aggressively recruiting health care professionals and doctors from the U.S.
Getting homes built faster: Accelerate housing development by bringing in a new 30-day permit guarantee for small residential builds, standardizing technical codes province-wide, and partnering with the federal government to reduce development cost charges by up to 50%.
Giving Surrey the tools to deliver: A Surrey charter with the same kind of authority Vancouver has. This gives local leaders more power to make faster decisions on housing, transit, and community services tailored to Surrey's growing population.

UPDATE SUNDAY OCTOBER 18
Police Appeal for Dashcam Footage Following Highway 99 Collision
Surrey Police Service (SPS) is asking for the public to send them any dashcam footage they may have of the October 16, 2026, multi-vehicle collision on Highway 99.
At approximately 4:30 pm on October 16, 2026, a semi-truck and trailer was travelling northbound in the 12200-block Highway 99 when it struck three sedans also travelling northbound. The semi-truck left the northbound lanes, jack-knifed, and struck the median separating northbound from southbound traffic. The semi-truck then went into southbound traffic, striking a southbound transit bus carrying approximately 50-60 passengers and another sedan.
SPS officers from across Surrey responded as did multiple Surrey Fire Services firefighters. Numerous BCEHS resources responded, including one air ambulance. Due to the size of the collision scene and resulting traffic congestion, Delta Police Department officers, City of Surrey, Mainroad traffic, and Ministry of Transportation and Transit staff also assisted for several hours.
BCEHS paramedics provided emergency medical care to a total of 13 people. Two people were transported to hospital in serious but stable condition, including one by air ambulance who has since been discharged from hospital. Eleven other people were transported by BCEHS to hospital in stable condition with less serious injuries.
In a statement, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) said the crash involved a semi-trailer, bus and other vehicles.
"The number and type of vehicles are unknown and I do not have information on the type of bus and whether it is carrying any passengers," read the statement from SPS Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton.
"The investigation and cause of the collision is in its early stages; however, it appears that the collision occurred following the semi-truck and trailer crossing into the southbound lanes," he added in an update sent after 9:30 p.m. PT.
Good afternoon
5:30
Please be advised that both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 99 just east of the Highway 99 and Highway 91 interchange are currently closed due to a multi-vehicle collision involving a semi truck and trailer, a bus, and several vehicles. The number and type of vehicles are unknown and I do not have information on the type of bus and whether it is carrying any passengers. At this time, it is unknown whether there are any serious injuries, but Surrey Fire Services and BCEHS paramedics are on scene.
It is likely that parts of the highway will be closed for several hours as police investigate, gather evidence, and the scene is cleaned up.
Any significant updates will come either later tonight or tomorrow.
7:30
Good evening,
Police and traffic control are working to clear the significant back up of vehicles along the highways. SPS is working with Surrey Fire Services, BCEHS, Delta Police, and the City of Surrey to manage the traffic and clear it safely.
There are no reported serious injuries. Only one person has been transported to hospital with minor injuries. Tow trucks are working their way to the vehicles that aren’t drivable. The roadway is expected to be closed for a few hours.
9:30
Good evening,
Traffic has been reopened on Highway 99 following the earlier multi-vehicle collision.
BCEHS paramedics provided emergency medical care to a total of 13 people. Two people were transported to hospital in serious but stable condition, including one by air ambulance. Eleven other people were transported to hospital in stable condition with less serious injuries.
The investigation and cause of the collision is in its early stages; however, it appears that the collision occurred following the semi-truck and trailer crossing into the southbound lanes.
Do not expect any additional updates tonight.
New actions include free transit for low income seniors, building bus rapid transit
David Eby is pledging new action to help people in Surrey get around more easily and affordably with expanded bus rapid transit and free transit passes for low income seniors. This builds on Eby’s plan to cut gas prices by up to 30¢ per litre, and complete the Surrey Langley Skytrain.
Eby also announced that he will give Surrey its own municipal charter, granting B.C.’s fastest-growing city the same kind of authority Vancouver has. This will give local leaders the tools they need to directly address pressing housing, transit, infrastructure, and community needs. The Surrey Charter will ensure that the city can thrive amidst rapid growth and has more autonomy and flexibility to meet the needs of Surrey residents.
How David Eby will help people in Surrey get around easily and more affordably:
Slash up to 30 cents a litre off gas: Suspend a portion of the provincial gas tax while regulating oil company profit margins to save as much as $20 when you fill up your tank.
Free transit passes for seniors in need: Make the Seniors’ Bus Pass free for 350,000 low-income seniors across the province and expand the income eligibility so that tens of thousands of more facing financial pressures can access public transit for free.
Deliver bus rapid transit in Surrey: Invest $250 million to leverage federal funding and deliver Bus Rapid Transit along King George Boulevard, from Surrey to White Rock, working in partnership with TransLink.
Connect Surrey to Langley: Open the new Surrey Langley Skytrain in 2029, part of the record investments the BC NDP is making to expand public transit across British Columbia.

Investigators are working to positively identify the deceased.
IHIT is asking anyone who was in the area of the 6100-block of 156 Street in Surrey between October 8 and October 14, 2026, and who may have information relevant to the investigation, to come forward.
Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area during this period.
“This investigation is in its early stages, and significant work is underway as we conduct a forensic examination of the area where the deceased was located,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “It is critical for us to establish a timeline of events leading up to the man’s death, and we are asking anyone with information to contact IHIT.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

South Surrey/White Rock Provincial Candidates
Your One Stop For All your Voting Questions? Time/Place Location?
The civic vote was held this weekend and surprisingly what was old is suddenly new again with Doug McCallum back as the Mayor of Surrey for his 5th term. If this sounds like a mistake, you might want to check your Surrey Mayoral history. Doug first became Mayor back in 1996, running for three consecutive 3 year terms until 2005 as the leader of the Surrey Elector's Team. He had a 13 year hiatus while Dianne Watts and Linda Hepner took turns as leaders of Surrey First from 2005 to 2014 and from 2014 to 2018 when four year civic terms were introduced. Doug McCallum was back as Mayor for the Safe Surrey Coalition from 2018-2022 and he has now been elected yet again in 2026. If he completes his latest term to 2030 he will have served as the Mayor of Surrey for 17 years. He already holds the record for the longest serving Mayor of Surrey at 13 years showing that Doug does indeed get it done.
